Loom Weaving

Perhaps the most central group task is the weaving of the communal loom. Sue Eusden spins wool throughout the festival, next to a large bespoke loom and people come and chat whilst weaving the loom with whatever they have brought from their own place. Shells from Scandinavia, sari fabric from India, wool from the North, trinkets from south America, feathers from nearby fields, all become caught in the collective story of our time together. The result is a powerful symbol of community, with dozens of dreams, concerns, anecdotes and wishes curated into a uniquely beautiful pattern that becomes the final meeting point in the closing ceremony. We didn't plan it this way but, like the culture of Edfest, it got born out of us being together and we found it just happened.
